Graduating Australian year 12 students, who have just finnished 14 years of schooling embark in a week long celebration of free from parents, teachers, timetables and institutions. Schoolies is the name given for this month long celebration that school leavers from each state of Australia embark on for a week at a time. Surfers Paradise, on the Queensland coast has long been regarded as the mecca for this celebration. With its cencentration of high rise hotels and apartments, night clubs and pubs it is a city well known for its colourful nightlife. For most, its their first taste of freedom with no one to tell them when to stop, the partying often goes all night and into the next day, giving themsleves a few hours to recover before waking up and doing it all again.
